Raising Foodies at St. Anne’s

Alliance of Moms and top chefs give young mothers more than just a cooking class.

Late last year, the Alliance of Moms, a new generation of philanthropists helping St. Anne’s, launched Raising Foodies, a monthly cooking class for young mothers in our Transitional Housing Program. Well-known local chefs, such as Sqirl’s Jessica Koslow, teach groups of St. Anne’s moms how to cook healthy, tasty meals in St. Anne’s commercial kitchen. Or smaller groups of moms learn how to cook the meals in their own kitchens. Volunteers from the Alliance of Moms provide childcare while the young moms are in the class, and then the two groups of moms enjoy the dinner together. In this comfortable setting, Alliance moms share practical ways to engage children’s brains through activities like singing and talking, and the mothers share their triumphs and challenges. The founders of the Alliance of Moms were honored for their innovative work with St. Anne’s mothers at this year’s Evening of Angels gala.
