Under the supervision of the Health Manager, the Health Specialist oversees medical conditions, medical administrations, and health related accommodations. This includes a review of health documentation to make determinants of health status for children, and providing health related education to parents and staff, and coordination of client’s needs. The Health Specialist carries out their duties for all of St. Anne’s Early Head Start and Head Start contracts and program options.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Engages families as advocates, lifelong educators, and first teachers of their children by creating family and father-friendly environments that are welcoming and comfortable.
2. Provides Health education to parents and education staff as well as implementation of strategies to best individualize services and address health related concerns (medication administration, child accommodations, and etc.)
3. Communicates with medical and dental providers to obtain Well-Child Examinations, Dental Examinations, and follow-ups for medical conditions, medication administration, and other health related concerns.
4. Conducts classrooms observations using LACOE Tier 1 Monitoring Tools to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. Shares findings with Center Manager/Lead Teacher and Associate Director of Education to ensure that follow up and corrections are made in a timely manner.
5. Conducts child file reviews using LACOE Tier 1 Monitoring Tools to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. Shares gaps with FCE Managers, Home Based Managers to ensure timely corrections and follow up is conducted.
6. Enters and Analyze information from Child Plus. Shares discrepancies with Health Manager.
7. Conduct Preservice/Inservice Trainings for ECE staff based on based data trends. Trainings will be recorded.
8. Communicates with Public Health and other outside agencies when there are contagious outbreaks at centers and other health related concerns.
9. Conducts Postpartum/Newborn Home Visits to provide support and educate new parents.
10. Reviews documentation that can include but is not limited to health history, nutrition screening, physical exam, dental exam, immunizations, screening tests, medication forms, referrals, etc. and decide of health status for child.
11. Reviews and complete medical administration consent forms with parents/guardian, check in medication to the classroom, and train staff on how to administer medication.
12. Alerts FCE Managers/ Home Based Managers/FSA/PES to pending Health Assessment Requirements for children according to California Health and Disabilities Program Periodicity Schedule.
13. Meet with Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) consultants for monitoring visits.
14. Participates in all Mandatory trainings.
15. Participates in the enrollment review team.
16. Attends staff meetings and recommended training programs as assigned.
17. Maintains regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
18. Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne’s, licensing, HIPAA, and other regulatory agencies.
19. Follow St. Anne’s and mandated reporting guidelines.
20. Travel to all centers in all services areas as needed.

4. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
5. Experience working in the community, preferably Head Start.
6. Must possess and maintain a valid class C CA driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carrier.
7. Must have a reliable automobile.
8. Able to communicate effectively with both children and adults.
9. Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback.

As such, employees are expected to maintain composure during all interactions and crisis situations, implement a self-care plan, and utilize crisis communication to deescalate client crisis and prevent any serious bodily injury or harm.
12. Prior to employment, shall obtain a criminal background clearance, immunizations MMR-TDAP-Influenza or Influenza Declination, TB clearance and COVID-19 vaccine.
