Teacher Assistant, Lynwood Site


Under the direction of the Center Manager, this person will be responsible for the overall monitoring and supervision of the children in the classroom. Assists classroom teaching staff with planning, facilitating & implementing individual & group activities designed to stimulate children’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. Assist in observing individual and group activities for the purpose of assisting with assessments. Assist with the inclusion of children with special needs.  Encourage parents in the educational activities of the program and assists with promoting the parent as the child’s main influence in their development.

10.5 month position/school year



  1. Must have at minimum 12 units of Child Development and 6 units of Infant and Toddler.
  2. Must possess or qualified to obtain an Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or California Child Development Teacher Permit.
    1.   Teaching staff that only possess 3 of the 6 required Infant & Toddler units will be allowed 12 months to complete the additional 3 units. Checking of this box will identify the teacher requires this Education Plan in order to meet this requirement, and must provide St. Anne’s official transcripts to verify completion of the class with a letter grade of C or better on or before their 12th month employment anniversary. Failure to do so will mean the teacher will not meet the requirements for the position and will be terminated.
    2.  Education Plan must be created /maintained if you are enrolled in an AA Degree program and must complete units with a “C” or better at least three semester (4.5 quarter) units per year in Child Development or a General Education class required for the AA Degree
    3. If a candidate has only 3 Infant and Toddler units (4.5 quarter), an Educational Plan must be developed to ensure that the remaining units are completed with a “C” or better within a year.
  3. Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children – Infant & Toddler, especially in the field of early childhood education or development with a minimum two (2) years of experience working with young children in a classroom setting, or combined experience in the classroom and group settings with young children (Infant & Toddlers)
  4. Must demonstrate competencies in supporting the planning and implementing learning experience that:
    1. Advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, phonemic, and print awareness, understanding and use of language and increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, appreciation of books, understanding of early math and science, problem solving skills, and approaches to learning.
    2. Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment.
    3. Support the social and emotional development of children
    4. Encourage family involvement of the children in a Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families. Families as lifelong educators to achieve School Readiness Goals.
  5. Able to relate well to both children and adults
  6. Must have the personality, ability to provide leadership skills and stability for program continuity.
  7. Preferred experience or training in infant/toddler development, safety issues; and methods for communicating effectively with infants, toddlers, parents and other staff members.
  8. Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback.
  9. Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carrier.
