Celebrating Mother’s Day at St. Anne’s

Mother’s Day can be a difficult holiday for the young moms in our Residential Treatment and Transitional Housing programs. Many St. Anne’s residents may not have known their own mothers or may not have family and loved ones to celebrate with. But this year so many thoughtful gestures came their way thanks to some very special people:

A Meaningful Day
Thanks to our Mother’s Day campaign donors, on Sunday every resident at St. Anne’s received a beautiful butterfly card designed by a former St. Anne’s resident and her son. Thank you to our donors and to the card’s designers, Yansy and Niko, for spreading your message of hope to this new generation of St. Anne’s moms. Along with these beautiful cards, the young mothers in our Residential Treatment Program also received gift cards from the generous parishioners at St. Martin of Tours. Thank you to St. Martin of Tours and to John Landry, who delivered the gift cards to program staff last week!

Sharing the Love
Linda and Marc Ching of The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation extended Mother’s Day into this week with a special event last night. Marc and Linda recruited a number of volunteers and threw a Mother’s Day love-themed party for the young moms in our residential and transitional housing programs. They served a delicious dinner, set up arts and crafts stations, provided entertainment and gave each mother and child gift bags. To cap off the evening, they raffled off two trips to Disneyland, including a stay at the hotel! Thank you to Linda, Marc and all of last night’s volunteers, for making our young mamas feel so special and loved! Your party’s theme of sweet love matches your generous hearts.

Sending Encouragement
This week, our young mothers received thoughtful handwritten notes on beautiful letterpress cards from Alisha and Eileen at Gold Press Paper and Our Sacred Women. Each time someone purchased one of their “You got this, Mama!” cards, Alisha and Eileen gave one to young mothers in foster care. Thank you, Alisha and Eileen for the personal message of encouragement and empowerment in each card.
